I live now for 4 months on the boat. Still 100 small projects on the list, but up to this point, everything works fine. Easy to say with a boat still on the hard.
But I’m quite happy with the insulation and heating, galley setup, electricity and lights and all the things that aren’t related to actual sailing. I was working full time these months, so I hadn’t that much time to spare, and to be honest, I felt a bit tired after the last years. So it was OK for me doing things a bit slower without external scheduling pressure.
As always I don’t have a very expressive set of photos. Some things that I’ve done: Everything inside is painted/coated, there is most of the trim in place, the port side of the cabin has lights and sockets, the heater is installed with copper pipe and day tank. I was very unhappy with the hatch over the berth, so I swapped it for a bigger one from a different manufacturer, I built a dorade box and many small projects. Some people convinced me that the probably cheapest solution for tillers (a metal pipe) isn’t a real option, so I laminated 2 out of oak and ash offcuts and spruce. They are beautiful I think but also a bit hefty. I also built a anchor bow roller out of oak with another (small!) bollard for the chain. Now I have 3 wooden posts and 1 steel bollard :)
The bow is finished for now. I will glue a sheet of metal on to protect the hull from the anchor. But I can do this easily later on in the water. The, I must say, funny reason I haven’t done this yet is because I couldn’t decide if I want it to be slightly rusty 304 stainless, copper or brass. I will give this decision another few months I think :)
I will write a bit more about the rudders later. So the next things are to put the boat in the water and build and step the mast.
